WMU was founded in 1903 in Kalamazoo Michigan. It currently houses over 140 undergraduate programs, 67 master's degree programs, 29 doctoral programs, and has a population of around 25,000 students.
Western is one of the nations top-100 public universities and is classified by The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as 1 of the only 76 public institutes with high research activity.
This beautiful university personally offered me a superb learning environment that combined complex theoretical subjects with real world solutions. Western made me who I am today.

Now known simply as Engineering Design Technology (EDT), this program offers a unique avenue into the world of engineering. EDT focuses on manufacturing and design more than most traditional engineering majors. EDT is part of the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, which has been around since the founding of WMU.
EDT teaches students to use state of the art CAD software to design for manufacturability. This includes an education in many mainstream parametric CAD systems, machining and CNC courses, along with traditional engineering courses such as statics and thermodynamics.
In the past, I have described my degree as...
“Similar to mechanical engineering, but with more focus on design and practicality and less focus on theory.”
